1. Location and Budget - I am located in Fargo, ND USA. and the budget is kind of what it takes, within reason.

2. Aim - Primary use is gaming, but I am a Mechanical Engineer and I do occasionally (twice a month-ish) bring some work home for a weekend. I would like to be able to do 3D modeling using Creo 2.0 and Solidworks, as well as CFD and FEA simulation software like Ansys and Solidworks Simulation.

3. Monitors - I currently have two cheap LG 22" 1080 monitors that I will keep. Down the road after the build is complete I would like to add a 2560x1440 monitor to use as my primary and move the two 1080's to auxiliary monitors. I have no plans to game on 2 or three monitors at this time. One monitor gaming is fine with me.

4. Peripherals - I recently picked up a Corsair K70 and M95. I a more than happy with them so I do not plan on buying new for this build.

5. Why am I upgrading - My current home PC is a really crappy HP prebuild that I bought at best buy four years ago. (AMD Phenom II x4 820) I did add a GTX-570 about a year ago to aid in its modeling capability. I have a bit of money set aside and have been planning for some time. But that does not mean I am not open to criticism and suggestions. After all, this will be my first build.

Ok, here is a system spec that I have been considering, but I know its not 100% right as I would like to build in stages.

Before you lay in please allow me to try to explain my plan of attack.

Stage 1. - I will buy the case, psu, and H110 soon. Then install my current motherboard, CPU, RAM, and hdd in the new case with the new PSU and H110 on the CPU.

Why - I would like to gain a bit of experience with the new case, moving a MB around, the H110 and cable management before I really throw myself into the meat of the build. This simple 2-3 week pause will allow me to experiment and learn a bit more about what I am doing.

Stage 2. - I will buy the new MB, CPU, Ram, HDD, SDD and OS. NO GPU. This will be the largest part of the build and the start of the new rig. I will install all the new goodies in the case along with my old GTX-570. as a hold over until I know more about what Maxwell will have to offer. The far down the road plan would be to pick up a 2560x1440 G-Sync monitor powered by whatever new GPU I get after the maxwell introduction. I may or may not go in the maxwell direction but I do not want to make any investments before I know what it will have to offer.

Stage 3. - New GPU(s).

Stage 4. - ...

Stage 5. - Profit.

Any and all suggestions are more than welcome as I have never done this before.

Thanks for the help.

No thoughts? I know I could not have done that good of a job on my first stab at it...
