Mid 2013 I needed a laptop for school work and a fairly powerful gaming rig. So I got a rebranded Clevo. For 6 years it's been my main gaming rig, main productivity rig and main movie watching rig and I've been taking it with me everywhere. The laptop, hardware wise is still fine (other than the original GPU blowing up, a ATI HD 7970m I upgraded to an Nvidia 970m), it's also never been formatted (sorry laptop, I haven't really been treating you well, have I?).

I'm studying Automation Engineering now, and I want to promote/demote the Clevo to just school things, so hopefully it lasts throughout the studies and maybe a few years after that.

In order to do that, I'm gonna need a bigger boat desktop PC.

I've always wanted to try out streaming, but the old Clevo had no chance running games well enough while streaming well enough. 4 cores, 8 threads just don't get you what it used to.

I'm an AMD fanboy by heart, which made the decision to get an Intel/ATI/Nvidia laptop, and use nothing else for 6 years rough.

AMD's rise back to some kind of glory, and the fact the Clevo started lagging in PoE (unacceptable), coincidig with the fact that I have money to blow now, makes this a perfect time.

I don't need a full build list, just a sanity check.

Games:

Some PoE (a game that runs fine until you're in a party with all kinds of bullshit going on at the same time).

Some Eve (which runs on a toaster).

Probably a shooter or 2. Blacklight, maybe.

Scenic games I love, like the new Tombraider games.

I also play RTS games, like Starcraft 2, once in a while.

Finally, I want to be able to play VR and not have the laptop either blow up or produce just too frames for a good experience.

I want to be able to stream myself doing any of that.

Resolution, 1440p should be good. As sexy as 4K sounds, later upgrades maybe.

Knowing me, I'll porbably slap a few monitors onto it, but only game on 1 of them (or on a VR headset).

CPU:

I'm considering the Ryzen 3700X.

The 3900X is sexy, but probably overkill.

The 3800X is just overpaying for a slightly faster 3700X.

GPU.

Kind of conflicted here. The 5700 and the XT variant look good, but there's other GPU's coming soon. And there's always good old team green.

RAM doesn't really matter (unless you run out), but the Clevo has 16GB, and I'm not matching ram amounts to a 6 year old laptop. I'm gonna slap in 32 GB of decently fast ram (for Ryzen) and hopefully never have to worry about memory again until the next build.

Screen:

I've taken the 60 Hz LCD screen in my laptop for granted. Still has an amazing image by the way and naturally that was the main screen for everything I did. Normally I have my laptop hooked up to a crappy 900p monitor I got for cheap that I use for youtube or guides or some other crap. Though I could technically play on that, I want a screen that actually puts the new hardware to good use, 1440p probably.

So I'm looking for suggestions for screens as well.

Nothing that burns in, permanent hud icons in games they don't belong don't really look too good.

Also nothing that burns through my wallet.

I have no idea what response time the current display has, only that's it's LCD and 60Hz with a very good color gamut (95% I think).

What budget/country?

Navi aftermarket cards have started to leak out, they're hopefully released within the next 2 weeks.

I'm buying navi mostly for the new upscaling technology, so you can get 1440p performance with closer to 4k visuals and cheat out more fps in general.

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

10.000 dkk (or cheaper), Denmark.

Use something like proshop.dk for price references. Never the cheapest, never the most expensive.

All you really need with the Ryzen 3000 6 or 8 core is one of the cheaper X570 boards

a 512GB NVME SSD of some kind, kind of overkill but whatever.
and a case with a mesh front, unless you want something like this

Also, I slapped in a 500GB samsung EVO into the Clevo. Loading games from that is awesome so not going back to spinning rust. I'll look around for a decent sized capacity ssd that's cheap but not too cheap. As long as it isn't spinning, speed should be more than adequate.

I'd go with an M.2 SSD if you're buying a new one just to not deal with any cables.

Assuming it's avalible there the Q500L is a really neat case that's pretty compact and cheap. Just gotta add some fans, it has magnetic dust filters on 2 sides.

Don't really care about cases too much, but for the love of god, dust filters.

A screen?

Ultrawide!!! I got the cheap Massdrop Vast 35 and it's nicer than my 32" 4K.. Never going to 16:9.
