hello, i recently bought the AKG K7XX but experience some problems with the ear cups squeaking. I got a replacement but it hasnt arrived yet, if the new pair that i receive has the some problem i would return them for a refund. With that being said, what would be a great headset to pair up with the jds labs atom and a khadas tone board (mostly going to be gaming but music is always a plus).

thanks

If you want open back then you don't want the Audio Technica recommendation, though, I would prefer those over open back for gaming.  Tried an open back pair once and couldn't hear footsteps for shit.  Went back to my Audio Technica cans.

I was talking about any of their closed back pairs.  They make an open back pair, but it wasn't to what I was referring.

I generally think the ATH-M50X from Audio Technica.

not s very good headphone unless you are producing and are monitoring but even then for the price you can get something better for tose purposes. especially for like $20 more you can get the msr7's which are such a big step above the m50's in both detail retention and just beringa generally better headphone.

Here are some more options:

Open - Fidelio X2HR, Monolith M560, Monolith M565

Closed - SRH840, M40x, T50RP

If you also want to take it on the go, definitely Fidelio X2HR. I think Zeos has sound demo videos for all of the headphones mentioned, worth taking a listen to.

sound demos really don't make sense to me unles syou are using the same headphones he is using to monitor them.

That's not the idea of sound demo anyway. He's posting those video so we can get a feel of sound stage, and relative frequency response of headphones.

It's not meant to be a precise tool.

but even then what if your are listening to a headphone with a realatively narrow soundstage its difficult for that headphone to producea wider soundstage that it can give. I would say they are ok for comparing sound signatures and detail retention but that depends on the mic.  not at all soundstage though

Go listen to Monolith M560 sound demo. It may change your mind, it may not.

I'm just here to help OP make the best decision possible for his hearing pleasure, not here to argue about subjective matter.

it didn't really change my mind. I said what I said out of pure experience i have listened to various sound demos of his a b testing it with different headphones and basically every time gave me a different experience which led me to the conclusion Im at.
