100% HDD usage

I have decided to make use of an old laptop for general web surfing and youtube watching ect. but my HDD is hitting 100% usage seemingly for no reason usually upon launch, using the task manager it seems as though it shouldn't be pinned like it is because it isn't hitting its maximum speeds, is there something happening in the background that i cant see or is it really just a slow crappy hard drive?

 

The hard drive is a Hitachi HTS547575A9E384

just crappy old HDD, get ssd, it will fix that

Does it settle after some time? 

Can you go into Performance > Resource Monitor > Disk

Expand Disk Activity, and see if whats using a lot of Read / Write in there

it does settle after about 5 minutes, the things that showed most usage under resource monitor are all "system" and "svchost local network"

 

i think i will buy and ssd but i was wondering if there is any way of me fixing this and not having to spend money because it does still hit 100% doing other random tasks.

Windows 10 just wants more io than a hdd can provide, thats just how hdds are these days, nothing you can do.

 

There really isn't anything you can do. You can try to cut out a few services and things, but its not helping that much, esp as programs keep getting bigger and the hdd doesn't.

Thanks for the help everyone, i had 2 SSD's in my main pc so i used one of them to swap for the laptop HDD and its working fine now.
