Up to you if you want to go Intel. The value for money route is Ryzen which is why it has been suggested by myself and others. There won't be a huge difference at 1440p anyway. You would also have an upgrade path on the cpu.

If you want an Intel option, then you might as well aim for the 9900K. You might need a beefier cooler depending on whether you want to overclock the cpu or not. You can still try the Noctua cooler first though.

1. Budget & Location

$2-2.5k, USA

2. Aim

Mostly gaming.  thinking about steaming. Mostly play League of Legends but i do play games like tomb raider, battlefield, witcher 3 and cant wait to play cyber punk 2077. Not a fan of liquid cooling for reliability concerns.

3. Monitors

only playing on 1 monitor and dont think it would change any time soon. Currently using the ROG SWIFT PG278Q 1440p 144hz gync 27inch

4. Peripherals

Will need windows mainly because i really dont want to tear down my old build but opinions to what I should transfer over is appreciated . will need a new headset. more into something with good sound quality vs your typical "gaming headset" Currently using the k70 keyboard and the v2 nega hex mice.

5. Why are you upgrading?

Mainly to play new gen games at ultra quality without loss of performance .

current build that im upgrading from

For slightly better gaming performance one could go with an i7-9700K on a z390 motherboard. I'm not sure the cost justifies that choice. The 3700X should do a better job streaming.

Is your current setup struggling ? A 6700K and 1080 ti is still a very good spec.

I've seen frame drops down to 95-108 on league of legends and also some games like metro and witcher 3. With me using a 144 hz monitor and not maintaining the 144 fps at  1440p it seems like it stutters below the 110fps mark.

it's probably because the i7 6700k is still a quad core, i'd simply get a better cpu like the Ryzen 7 3700x. And yeah, they're better since they offer more cores for much less and perform nearly the same

As for the ram would it be better to get a high clock speed one or does that not make a huge difference with a high core cpu?

3200 or 3600MHz (3600 is normally too expensive) is preferred.

with ryzen 3000 get at least 3200mhz, but if you can get 3600, it's the sweet spot

I would just upgrade the cpu and board then and see how you go. You can reuse some of the ram (32GB is more than enough for gaming) and you have a good psu, case, ssd's etc. The cooler can also be used but you might need to get an AM4 bracket from an online retailer or Noctua themselves. Even though your ram is 2666MHz it can be overclocked.

So something like below is what I would do. Of course feel free to pick a different board if you have preference for Asus, MSI or ASRock etc.

Thanks for the advice. I saw some people get the 9900k up to 5.1 GHZ is this even a reasonable goal or is there a lot i would need to do an order to archive that to make it worth getting the 9900k over the 9700k.

I would go with an 9700k or 9900K. Put a good cooler on it and OC it to 5Ghz all cores or more.

Gaming wise they perform the same. Even for streaming 8 Cores should be enouph, but if you dont care the price difference and really want that hyperthreading then go for the 9900k.

9700k and 9900k still beat the AMD CPUs in pure gaming on CPU intensive games.
