Intel Engineering Samples? Okay for Lab/Home?

I was looking on ebay for some new server hardware for my home. I came across Engineering Samples of Skylake Xeon Gold Scalable 6138 and 6148s anywhere from $150-300.

 

Are these CPUs okay for home or lab use? Is there anything wrong with them?

engineer samples are the cpus used to test the motherboards vendors create and sell before the final cpu model comes

 

usually those samples are slower than the final product but should be completely finctional

 

those cpus are not meant to be sold or released to the public, think of them as prototypes that should return to intel or be destroyed

 

they should work, yes, but some motherboards with newer bios might not recognice them or recognice them wrong making them work weird or with some features or instructions disabled, even hyperthreading or cores disaled

 

or might just work normally

 

i personally wouldnt buy it for the price it has and the gable those represent

 

some people like to buy those but as rarities, colectables perhaps
