So I have this pc, terrible specs, and I’m looking to upgrade it. And I DONT want to buy a new rig. Anybody have any ideas as to how to upgrade it? And what parts I should use? I’m on a budget, so keep the prices affordable.

My current pc specs are:

GPU: NVIDIA GT 730

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz

RAM: 16 GB

and the rest I don’t know...

this pc is called a Dell XPS I don’t know where to find it because it’s so old.

Mid-2016 isn't what I would call old.

You need a better GPU, the 6700 CPU can still handle a lot of good games.

Find a used RX580 8GB or something similar on ebay or a second hand store and call it good.

Thankyou, I want to change the look of the pc too, maybe a new case and some rgb, any ideas as to what I should do there?

I would say focus on a GPU and maybe add in an SSD as well. You can get a new 250GB SSD for like $40, give or take.

It doesn't look like it's got a proprietary motheboard or power supply so a case swap should be pretty simple and I would say is down to what sort of look you're after, same for RGB.

Oh, I looked up the specs (CPU + GPU combo) and the model is a Dell XPS 8900, all/most of the specs can be found here:

I would probably budget for something in the $275 range:

PCPartPicker Part List
Type Item Price
Storage Crucial MX500 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $39.60 @ OutletPC
Video Card MSI Radeon RX 580 8 GB ARMOR OC Video Card $159.99 @ Newegg
Case Cougar MX330 ATX Mid Tower Case $39.99 @ Amazon
Power Supply Corsair CX (2017) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $44.89 @ OutletPC
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
  Total (before mail-in rebates) $319.47
  Mail-in rebates -$35.00
  Total $284.47
  Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-07-24 18:19 EDT-0400

Keep in mind this is assuming all new parts but you might be able to find an RX580 8GB used for cheaper online, although at $160 new it's pretty good either way. I would maybe try to find a CX (2017) 550W PSU online or wait for a sale since that would allow more headroom if you upgrade other parts down the line but 450W is plenty to start with.

The motherboard is Micro ATX, meaning that you can put it into basically any Micro ATX or ATX case. Keep in mind that your motherboard and power supply will look pretty ugly if you get a case with a clear side panel. Therefore, I would strongly suggest against prioritizing the looks of your system over performance.

I would suggest that you look to purchase second hand on your local classifieds (Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp). Specifically, I would look for sub $150 GTX 1060s and sub $50 250gb/500gb SATA SSDs from Samsung or Crucial.

Get a new power supply if adding a powerful video card. The included one is likely trash. Also make sure the board form factor is standard before you blow money on a fancy case.

The power supply is 460 watts, which is perfectly fine for cards up to a GTX 1070.

Yep, like everyone else said your CPU is great so a new graphics card of basically any kind is ideal. Used market is recommended.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Homeless Pineapple, is NZXT an OK ATX case?

NZXT is generally a good brand, which case are you referring to in particular? Make sure to tag me with @Homeless Pineapple or I won't get notified of future messages.
