New GPU & PSU -> Boot fail. Halp?!

Go to solution Solved by Napalm Death,

Tried clearing CMOS and the same thing happens.

OK... I solved it...

I feel utterly stupid, but I blame the flu induced headaches.

I had the sound card in the top PCI-e 1x slot. This prevents the OS loading apparently.

Hooray!

Hi guys.

I've had my current rig for a few years now:

2500k in an Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 (OC @ 4.2ghz)

8GB xms3 ram

GTX 570

Crucial M4 128gb SSD

1tb seagate barracuda

Antec HCG 620w PSU

All running smoothly.

I recently decided to give crypto mining a shot, so I bought a R9 290 and a RM 850 PSU with the idea that I could have both in my system - use the GTX 570 for gaming and the R9 290 can be mining 24/7 - I figured the 850w PSU would handle this and even be at optimal load for efficiency.

I've installed both pieces and I've run into some trouble; here is are images of my woes...

This is as far as I get before the system instantly reboots.

I have tried removing the power cables from the R9 290. I've tried booting with only the SSD connected. It won't let me boot from CD. I have gone into BIOS and loaded optimised settings.

None of this works.

Can anyone shed some light? I don't think this could be a bad RAM stick since it's been fine until now. Could the PSU be DoA?

...Halp! I really don't want to have to hook up my HCG 620 again... It's non-modular *cry*

Thanks,

N_D

If it would be GPU/PSU error, it wouldn't crash there. It either wouldn't boot at all or would crash under load. Have you cleared CMOS with switch or by disconnecting mobo battery? Is there some switch onboard that you may have flipped during install process?
