Is formatting my only solution?

CPU     - Intel i5-3550
MB       - Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H
RAM    - 12GB DDR3 1600Mhz
GPU     - AORUS GeForce® GTX 1060 6G
PSU     - MWE GOLD 750 FULL MODULAR
CASE  - CM 590 III
FAN    - 2 x MasterFan MF120R ARGB 3in1 with Wired Addressable RGB LED Controller.

 

For the pass week my pc shuts down but doesn't power off, freeze at restarts. But it seems to be working fine so I didn't pay much attention.

 

Today, it freezes in a black screen half way installing the latest nvidia game ready driver.  So I just power it off and on manually. Uninstall the driver using ddu. And after a restart it's not booting into windows anymore. So, am I left with formatting?

I say do a system restore.  Go back to earlier date that things were working fine.  Also I recommend no overclocking my friend.

I would suspect the processor overheating, or the video card.

Maybe make sure the cpu cooler is installed properly - sometimes the clips of the cpu cooler break or become loose so there's no longer any pressure, the cooler is barely making contact with the cpu so the cpu overheats.

Random shut downs could be explained by this ... but at the same time normally you would hear cpu fan spinning quite fast trying to keep cpu cool if this is the case...

Nah..didn't made any restore point..lol...I basically tried all options in the troubleshoot manual except command prompt..I restored my bios to default alr still won't boot..

I formatted the whole thing..and it keeps turning balck screen when loading into windows. Then I took everything out, reapplied the thermal paste on the motherboard's south bridge, put on another power supply and now stress testing it with furmark and prime95.

 

Now I'm wondering if it's the south bridge or power supply caused the problem...
