mobo, cpu, gpu

ok so here is a list of currently what i have.

Intel i5 6500

Gtx 680

asrock h170a motherboard

gskill 2x8gb 2133 mhz ram

500 gb ssd

1 tb hdd

cooler master haf xb (which is brand new and i love)

oh for monitor i have a brand new samsung 32inch curved 4ms 1080p monitor which i love.

keyboard and mouse is a microsoft 850 combo set

ok so end goals are to replace most of that are not new.

so i originally thinking a i7 9700k

gtx 1660ti

asus tuf gaming z390

2x16 gb 2133 mhz ram

500gb m.2 nvme

with the new ryzen parts out i am unsure as to which i should go with (dont want suggestions for parts) i just want your opinion on the question below

but all which will be done over time. the next upgrade will be either a new gpu, or a new cpu and mobo.

which should i upgrade first gpu or cpu. i get that no matter which i upgrade first the other old parts will be majorly bottlenecked and that is fine for awhile.

I would personally go for graphics card first, but what is your workload?

GPU.  You'll see a big change in performance going from a 680 to a 1660ti.

Going from a 6500 to 9700 but keeping the 680 won't be as big a change.  That said, you DO want to eventually upgrade the CPU too.  Games will run much smoother with more cores than 4.

oh for sure will be upgrading cpu in the coming months. just saving for a part or 2 at a time and installing it to make it faster abit now.

GPU definitely then. You can still play games decently with a 4 core processor, and a GPU upgrade will make the largest difference. Of course, you still should eventually upgrade your CPU

2060 and 2070 can be had at pretty decent discounts right now, the 5700 and 5700xt are a little better but you should wait for third party options, and if you can afford 400 the 2060 super is essentially a 2070.

Also should have mentioned that I would go with the 5700 or 2060 super over the 2060 because they both have 8gb of vram. I don’t think it matters too much today at 1080p but it might in a year or two. All of the cards are aimed at 1440 so they will be more than capable of 1080p gaming. Hope that helps

ok so i have started my major overhaul on my pc.

it originally was a gateway pc tower which i had installed a i5 6500 and a gtx 680

original hdd was 500gb i was using a old 32 inch samsung lcd tv

2x 8gb 2133 ram

now it sits in a cooler master haf xb evo with a i5 6500 and a rtx2060, i have a 32 inch samsung curved 1080p monitor,

ive installed 2 80 mm noctua fans and kept the 2x120mm fans that came with the case.

i plan on installing 2 x140mm noctua fans, a 120mm noctua fan so they all match color wise, i will be installing a 9700k and a asus tuf z390 board with a noctua d15 with 2 x140 fans. i will overclock card and cpu abit (not alot)

i plan on going to 2x16 gb ram im just thinking of sticking with 2133 mhz so i dont have to change the bios things which i have no clue how to do. and dont wanna screw it up. i will be installing a new psu.

which should be done first i was thinking about this order

psu, fans, d15 cooler, ram, mobo and cpu.

it will be changed over time.
