Looking to upgrade my 770

If you have the budget and plan on gaming specifically, definitely go Intel for because no matter what AMD or their biased fanboys claim Intel still provides better GAMING (emphasis on gaming) performance. In terms of GPU, there's no reason a 1070 should cost $700. With AMD you'll [typically] see better price to performance, however Nvidia will always be king because their high end cards have no competition from team red. I've heard good things about the RX 5700XT for gaming performance value but be aware that at this point in time it's essentially still early adoption making you, for lack of better words, a guinea pig finding bugs

I just built a 9400F and its a great little box but I also am in the process of building an R7 2700 as well so I guess we will see..

for a 6 core an RTX 2060 or Navi 5700 would be a nice match.  Im probably going to put the 2060 in the Ryzen and get another or possibly a super to put in the intel.

But it has little to do with fanboy stuff since the OP started off with an AMD system I just assumed that he had already considered intel vs amd and decided on AMD

Don't get me wrong, I love intel, and always wanted a beastly Intel rig, just the thing is, sure the 9700k slightly performs better than the 3700x due to it being power powerful single-core, and if a bunch of people can prove the 9700k is better, then I'll be game, but the thing that really has my attention is regardless, the 3700x performs very close to the 9700k as far as raw FPS, yet the 3700x is $50-100 cheaper, and has twice the threads. Makes me feel it will stand the test of time much better.

In regards to GPUs, I think it's just the way it is here in Canada with the end of the mining GPU rush. A 1070 will run you anywhere from $700-1,300. Where as a PNY 1080Ti with a blower cooler will run you $1,300, and a MSI 108 will run you $1,800. It's nuts.A 2070 is about $800 (and a 5700xt outperforms a 2070).

It also looks like the 5700 xt outperforms the 2060 Super (which costs more significantly more, weird), and performs very close to the 2070 super. So it really seems like my only options are to buy a 2080 super, for over double the price, or buy a 2080Ti for over 3x the price.

maybe a 6 core ryzen, intel can do much more with fewer cores in gaming

5700XT and 2060S msrp are both $399? if you're more budget conscious than power concious, go 3700X & 5700XT. otherwise it gets a bit tricky deciding on what to buy. but just remember that twice the threads will equal nowhere close to what twice the cores what mean for multi threaded applications as hyper threading just helps the cores queue up what to do next

side note when going amd & amd on their new 3000 and 5700 series, still LOTS of bugs and 5700XT reference cooler kinda blows (ha) AIB cards should be coming next month from what i've heard so if you plan on getting the 5700XT definitely wait for a strix card from Asus or a gaming z or similar card from MSI

It's not even that. When I build my current rig I was basically a kid, worked part time, and it was the best I could get for the money I had. Back then I fucking drooled over having an i7 4790k, and SLI 780Ti. And going into this I basically planned on buying Intel and Nvdia, and I'm still beyond open to that, if its worth it. But it just seems like the new Ryzen chips and the 5700xt basically outperform intel and Nvidia for cheaper?

From my understanding to beat a 3700x and 5700 xt, I would need to go for a 9700k (which has half the threads) and a 2080 super or 2080 Ti which will cost significantly more.

Like I said in my OP, I'm not building to November, so I imagine lots of bugs will be worked out, and AIB cards will all be released by then, and I plan to get an AIB card. The 5700, and the 5700xt both outperform the 2060S (2060S run between $550-700 on newegg, where as a 5700xt runs $519, so less money for more power.)

What's a rig that you would recommend that would outperform a 3700x and 5700xt?

sorry didn't read full op, also why do cards cost so much in canada? are you using CAD numbers or USD because both cards MSRP at $399 USD

fair enough, ive only used one AMD card before and it was temporarily borrowed from a friend after my used 1080 died, it was a sapphire r9 fury. but i'm a bit biased to Asus so i'd still probably go strix

Every price I've listed has been in CAD.

I honestly have no idea. I could be wrong, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think when the big crypto-currency rush hit like last year or whatever it was, GPU stocks plummeted, and prices sky rocketed. It just makes no sense how a 1070 costs more than a 2070 super.

Sapphire and Power Color don't make Nvidia cards.  Buildzoid has endorsed the power delivery on Sapphire cards time and time again and usually recommends them for AMD cards

Well I can tell you that I have absolutely no issues or problems in any way at all with my new i5 9400f build at all.  It is a fansastic little system and games wonderfully
