i'm planning to purchase valve index in the near future but i would also need to upgrade my pc for it since i doubt that my 970 is up for smooth VR experience.

What gpu would you guys recommend? is 2070 enough for should i go for super version? or do i need even better card for smooth experience?

tbh i'm absolutely clueless about the requirements in VR (or in general)

thank you in advance!

A RTX 2060 Super or RTX 2070 would perform wonderfully in VR. I've been humming along with my Rift on a GTX 1080 for about a year now, no complaints.

The Valve Index has type-C "Virtual Link" support (edit: seems like an accessory is needed to support this), so it would be ideal if you pair that with a video card that has type-C in its I/O, but not required. Here's an outdated list of GPUs that have Virtual Link support. Note: GTX 1660 and most RTX 2060 (vanillas) do not have Virtual Link support.

An RX 480 can run VR well, so a 2070 would even be overkill unless you want a really smooth experience or want to use it for something other than just VR.

I would very much disagree with this recommendation. A 480 is not good for VR. We have a Vive and Vive pro. With SLI titan XP’s and SLI 1080Ti’s. They can NOT perform with newer VR games without frame doubling. A 480 or a 2070 will give sub par performance.

You will I’ll not be able to take advantage of the index’s higher resolution or higher frame rate.

A 2070 will give you more

than decent enough performance
