Linus or Linux?

Yeah I know, curious title. But I'm wondering how many of you that talk about Linux OS and accidently spell Linus instead. There's no Linus OS (Like Linus Ubuntu). I realise it's easy to misspell Linux and replace it with Linus instead which is why I'm asking. I find it rather amusing myself. :D

Why not use both interchangeable?

Haha...yes!

That'd be good when ringing up for tech support for your Linux OS based computer.

Tech Support: "Hi, how may I help you?"

You: "Erm, I need help with my computer. The Linus OS is not working properly"

Tech Support: "Erm, okay. Do you mean your Linux OS is not working properly?"

You: "No. Linus. It's malfunctioning. I don't know what to do."

Tech Support: "Well I think you mean that your Linux OS is not working, there's no such thing as a Linus OS"

You: "No. I'm sure it's Linus. My desktop saids Linus Tech Tips on it"

Tech Support: "That's not the name of your OS, that's your desktop wallpaper."

Funny thing is, I knew about Linustechtips because I had seen one of his videos from 4 years ago, but I somehow thought in my juvenile stupidity that it was "linuxtechtips" and didn't subscribe because I thought it would be weird linux distro tutorials for the most part.

Every damn time when i search something from LTT the search function comes up with silly Linux stuff until i type the S.

I thought google and others were looking at your browsing behaviour to give you the best search matches and ads. I have never even considered Linux.

But Linus isn't known enough to be a recommendation in the google search bar. Your move Linus. :P

who cares...

On the contrary, I often type linux instead of linus. Having used linux for many  years linux is my normal muscle memory.

'Shitty linux stuff' Makes me sad, linux is a very powerful OS, don't shoot it till you've tried it.

Also a lot more systems use linux than you realise, android, routers,NAS's set top boxes, TVs, 70% of the internet.

I was saying silly, not shitty. Also i was saying that because the search function is silly and comes up with wrong recommenadations, and not because i find Linux silly. The fact that i haven't considered using Lunix yet, doesn't mean that i don't like it.

who cares...

thanks for pointing that out. :D

but linux doesn't suck. It just isn't the first choice for an operating system. :D

It's useful for some aplications like lutzee mentioned. small servers, NASs, or i would also add, just having a quick operation system on your USB stick for PC maintainance, without the need of having windows, but still having the ability to use many programs.

e.g. you upgrade the drives in your PC and want to sell the old drives. For selling them i would use one of those write/erase programs to fully erase the HDD/SSD. There's nothing easier than putting some sort of bootable linux on your usb stick and launching the program there, erase your drives, sell them, get new ones.

who cares...

For me using Linus instead of Linux is funnier than you think. S/X are pretty close so maybe some misspelling is in works there also. But as being read several histories of Open Source and Linux (Just for Fun being one of them), the history for naming Linux makes this funny. As it was originally intended to be Freax as in Free Unix. Linus Torvalds was persuade by his friend running BBS fileserver to use Linux instead. Linus being true Finn there and not wanting to take glory.

Interesting. I have actually used Linux and haven't really liked it. Was raised with MS Windows, will also be a MS Windows user...and I've got a MacBook Air, go figure. :P
