Building my first AMD rig and intend on buying the 3900x, I've been having a hard time trying to decided on RAM i have been reading the forms and seeing some videos that say 3600 is the sweet spot for this CPU. However, im having trouble deciding if 3200 or 3600. I've seen that if i go 3200 route i should find ram thats 14c and if i do 3600 to do 16-17 range. I will be using the PC for gaming with some streaming here and there. Also if u have a motherboard option that would pair well plz lmk also.

What gets me is that "3600 is the sweet spot" thing means "sweet spot in stability", not cost to performance even though most people think it is.

budget?

The confusion likely comes from the marketing materials which claim just this.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I really don't think it'll matter much when it comes to the things you plan on doing. Just go with what you feel comfortable with, and you'll be fine.

IIRC performance is exactly what they were referring to, at least when Gamer's Nexus (I think) reviewed the different speeds. It showed that 3600mhz was where you start to see the best gains in performance, after that you don't.

But to be honest it's not that picky any more.  Any half way kit will be fine and your not going to see huge gains with 3600 cl24 over it.

i have my ram running at 3600mhz 16-16-16 timings samsung b-die's, but bignaz is correct the new ryzens are not as fussy as it used to be with ram.

Unless you have the budget to buy 3600 RAM I'd just get 3200 and save the rest on another part of your build however RAM prices are a lot more consumer friendly than they were a year ago. For 3200 CL16 or lower will be fine - likewise for 3600. I'd just filter my search for those two RAM types, prioritise samsung die RAM modules in case you want to play around with RAM overclocking and tightening the timings (if not then skip this step) and then pick the RAM modules that look best with your build - or if you don't care about aesthetics then just go for the cheapest module that fits what you're looking for.

It's true that Ryzen 3000 series is way more RAM friendly (if that's what you can call it) compared to when Ryzen first came out. Just don't go above 3600 as the performance-to-dollar ratio goes out the window and you'll start hitting the top of the curve of diminishing returns.

I am interested to see the testing on what gains people are getting at what levels.

Linus said anthony will be putting out a video and there are a few sweet spots (I am assuming price/performance) of RAM for 3000 series.

They were saying RAM would be better optimized vs 1-2000 series where it was supposed to be a more stark effect.  That being said, I originally had 2400 mhz in my ryzen 2600 system and upgraded to 3000 mHz, the difference was barely appreciable in terms of FPS in games, streaming, CB runs, and premiere etc.  I honestly think it is quite overblown.  If the 3000 series is better optimized, the difference between 3000, 3200, 3600 might be pretty minimal.  I personally would bite on 3200 if there was a great deal and I suspect that is one of the "sweet spots" they referred to

Looking forward to anthony's video!
