Adapter for this?

Yourmomismyboyfriend
Go to solution Solved by goto10,

yes, of course it exist, it is called 4 pin pwm to molex adapter

but if it is for the cpu, some motherboards demand to see the fan connected to the fan header or they will not boot or turn off almost inmediatelly

in the first picture there is a black connector and seems to be a 5 pin fan header, it seems you need this adapter

I bought a fan without checking the connector *like a noob* and I was wondering if there was an adapter I could use? I have an optiplex 7010 lga1555 mobo.

So your fan has a standard 4pin PWM. The mobo has some custom proprietary shiiiz from Dell...

Take a look at the pinout https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/780-CPU-fan-pin-out/td-p/6175786

I  did a quick goole and I think there are no adapters :(

AND your fan will always be at 100%

Maybe, but please check the pinout. Otherwise you could fry the fan and possibly the mobo

Good luck trying to get very far with OEM boards. I got lucky and have standard headers and sockets on my temporary one but not everyone does.
If you look for adapters make sure you get the adapter matchinig your pinout. You could fry your board or something else if its not right.

the pinout, yes, but if this one exist, there might be others

about the fans at 100%, no, i have 2 atm connected like that, no, i cant hear them, i connected other cheap nzxt fans same way and they are not that silent as these thermaltake, but no, not 100% speed, i believe the molex uses the 5 volts line on the molex, not the 12, so fans spin slowly, i used to convert cheap old 80mm fans this way, same experience

about pinout and frying port

https://www.amazon.com/Dinfoger-Fan-Connector-Adapter-Converter-Extension/dp/B07RXKM3C3/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=5+pin+to+4+pin+pwm+fan+adapter+dell&qid=1563324799&s=gateway&sr=8-2

that one says is for dell, and it seems to have differnet pinout than the forst link i shared previously

So I'm an absolute pleb when it comes to this stuff. What do you mean pinot?

sorry, pinout

as you see on those pictures, the port on the dell pc has 5 pins

the fan you bougth has 3 or 4 pins

dell uses a stupid prorpietaty port and only them know what pin does what and at what voltage

so you need to know what pin outputs what on that connector, is a problem with dell, they do whatwver they want with those designs

the idea is you find the information on that port, know what pin does what and determine which one of those adapters wiñl work the best for you

that or return the fan and find a exact replacement part and avoid buying more things and have to fight with them to see if they work

a fan like this one

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Optiplex-Heatsink-5-Pin-Cooling/dp/B010AP0K0E/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=dell+cpu+fan+5+pins&qid=1563326340&s=gateway&sr=8-6

i asume you still have tve heatsink, only need the fan, right?

take a look for more options on amazon from this list
