Looks like you'll need BIOS version 2.30 at least but if you're going to update I would go with 2.40 since it's the latest

im helping my friend to build a pc. On PC Part Picker it says it might need upgraded

You'll need to update the BIOS first. If the board has the option to update without a CPU then you're good, otherwise you'll need to find a local shop or friend with a first or second gen ryzen chip so they can do the update for you, or you can get a bootkit from AMD directly and send it back when done.

Check the motherboard vendors website with the model of your motherboard it will list supported processors and what bios version is required.

If you go instore you might be able to get a motherboard with the newest bios already installed

A10-5800k, 8gb DDR3-1866, R9-270, 2x 500gb Hdd, 1x 1000gb Hdd
