V-Moda boompro...

Jaybird
Go to solution Solved by Aphexx,

better than my zalman clip on mic for sure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pNjjih1jAA

about as good as my corsair headset mic

edit: it was recorded using windows movie maker. I was going to do a LTT thread where we all record various microphones using audacity and upload them all to youtube or something but I stopped giving a shit. outside of movie maker the zalman sounds way more tinny and the boompro more defined and fuller

how is the quality? just ordered it yesterday. glad to finally be able to have a conversation with someone on the internet.

Thanks for the info.

I would be interested in listening to the different mics but I feel if random people upload their file you won't have enough consistency between all the different types. Now if Linus tests all the mics in the same environment using the same phrase like he didn't in that latest mic video of his, I think that would be highly valuable to many people.

I've got the Boom Pro Mic.

Better than my built-in on my laptop. Better than a desktop microphone from RadioShack. Better than my Microsoft webcam's microphone.

Only gripe I have, I guess, is the splitter for microphone & headphone jacks (3.5mm). It's a short lead on it. About 6 inches when stretched out (from headphone to microphone). So if you are using a USB amp/DAC (in my case, a Fiio E07k Andes), it has to sit really close the microphone jack for it to reach. Though, I have tested it on my cell phone (Google Galaxy Nexus) without the splitter (it's just a Y-adapter that's included), and it works like a charm. Great for when you have to call those 1-800 numbers and they leave you on hold for a long time. Like my ISP.

As a side note:

You might want to avoid plugging in the microphone jack next to an occupied USB port. I'm using a laptop and it's quite unavoidable for me. But you tend to get some cross-talk between the microphone jack and adjacent ports (it sounds like a whine or static). The BoomPro Mic has an in-line volume control knob, if you turn it down a bit, you won't hear it as much. Unplug the microphone jack and it'll become crystal clear (but for clarification, my headphone jack is attached to a USB amp/DAC, so no risk of cross-talk from that jack).

There's also a microphone mute switch on the other side of the volume knob. I think mine came muted, and it took me a few minutes to figure out why it wasn't working.
