I got a WD elements drive https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FNK6QMT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, but decided i'd rather have it as an internal drive. However when I removed it and hooked it up to my computer it doesn't detect at all. It works when attached to the enclosure board but not directly. Any ideas? or should I just return it and get an internal one.

does it have normal sata ports both for power and data?  did you connected both inside the case?  do you know if it is ntfs, or any otherspecific partition?

doibg a seqrch it seems these units are not normal drives, it seems somr had luck with them as wd red units, other experience problems with them

my take is that they have a soecific controller that depends on the enclosure somehow, i would leave it inside the enclosure
