Hello,

I bought a "broken"  840 evo, which i can see on diskpart and bios. The problem is that there is a password on the ssd.

I want to use hdparm to get rid of it. I got hdparm running and the  "hdparm -I /dev/sdb" command works as it should and shows the drive parameters, but when i want to go further on with "hdparm --user-master m --security-set-pass Passwort2 /dev/sdb" it just shows "Options:" and then all the letters that you can use to do something but does not say anything about what i typed and if it worked or not. can somebody tell me why i type in the same thing as others but hdparm doesnt give me any feedback on it how others have it?

Have you tried formatting the drive yet?  unless there is specifically encrypted data on it sometimes windows will just wipe it and the password giving you a fresh start.

Yes it gives errors cause it cant do anything on the drive because of rhe password. The bios is asking me for the password every startup. I also cant safe erase it because it says its locked. I have already searched alot on the internet. Im just wondering why hdparm isnt working like it should.

Yer, after that I don't know what else to do.  Sorry I can't help beyond a google search.

Did it say that the drive is not frozen?

I will try it with u(does it mean user?)

Yes. Master-password is set by the manufacturer, you can't change that, but you can change the user-password.

Can you explain to me how you would do what i want to do? Just get the drive usable again with a user password set, btw its a Samsung 840 evo 250gb.

I would appreciate your help :).

Ignore the sense-error and continue with the secure-erase, it should work anyways. If it doesn't, you ain't lost anything. Besides, the drives I've unlocked have done the same thing and they worked fine after the erase was done.

The problem is that the erase cant be done, samsung magicians usb stick tells me that it needa to be unlocked and parted magic says that the erase wasnt successful 1 second after starting it. I can maybe look again if it gave some specific error if it is something that can help. But im very thankful that you are so patient and trying to help me since i cant find anything on the internet that could help me.

I guess SSDs work differently than HDDs in this regard. I suppose you don't have much other choice than to contact Samsung and tell them you bought the SSD second-hand and you need the master-password to be able to secure-erase it and therefore disable security on it.
