About to buy a Homepod, anything better for the price?

41keems

So I plan on buying a Homepod today. I heard it at Bestbuy and loved the sound. However I already have an Amazon echo to use as a smart device but the Homepod is mainly for sound (It will also replace my echo). I was wondering if when it comes to audio, there is anything at all in the 200-350 dollar price bracket that would sound better. Portability obviously does not matter, but I am in a dorm room so I would prefer a Bluetooth speaker (size doesn't matter) over a HIFI system.

However if you know of a HIFI system that would sound better than a Homepod please tell me.

Thanks in advance!

You could just connect the Alexa to a powered speaker like the jbl104. Plenty loud and Alexa comes with built in Bluetooth functions. And can be used as a bluetooth reciever

I would just get an echo input then some decent powered speakers with an optical in.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

An echo input and the Klipsch RP-14pm would be lightyears ahead of the homepod. https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-2017-R-14PM-Powered-Monitor/dp/B075JRF295/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=powered+speakers&qid=1561847069&s=gateway&sr=8-15

There is some great options here. Even a powered 2.1 setup, with a very good sub for the price. All will be much better than an apple homepod, and will deliver stereo and soundstage. Also some horn loaded klipsch speakers, which will have much better treble. I would just stay well away from the homepod for its price, especially with its pretty lackluster sound.

So I just bought a homepod at Bestbuy but I might return it. Haven't decided yet. I didn't even think about powered speakers.
