My knowledge about laptops and their design is a bit outdated (but did laptop repairs for 4,5 years, ended about 10 years ago), but this looks like a defective screen or a loose connection to the screen.

If you tap the spot on the backcover (press it gently, but firmly enough that you seem to dent plastic) will it change? (either go completely black or fix the issue).

If this is the case, it is a loose or defective flat cable. Fairly easy repair if you can handle a screw driver and keep the screws to the right sockets. Flat cable might be annoying to get a hand on tho.

edit: to clarify, the spot to tap is the upper edge of the case. about 5 - 10cm from the top (2 - 4 inches)

since my knowledge is a bit outdated, i quickly checked if i could find an appropriate video. appearantly i was wrong on the location of the flat cables (video below). The flat cable for these appearantly resides in the lower part of the cover / bezle (sp?).

From minute 6 roughly you can see aproximately where the cable is. If you tap the area where you see the cable connect to the screen and the problem goes away or gets worse, you know that connection is the problem.

p.s. if you decide to repair, please do not use knifes or any sort of sharp tools around the cables.
