Today I read some new info regarding the vive cosmos

 

The screen is 2880x1700 pixels, or 1440x1700 pixels per eye 

LCD panels

6 camera's for inside out tracking

price  below 900 USD

There is or was a company that is experimenting with projectors.

Instead of displays you got a projector and a reflector pointing towards a ' screen'. This was supposed to mitigate the screendoor effect. 

I can't remember any more details than that though.

Expensive as heck

And weight

And a pain in the ass for not much gain.

 

A curved OLED display would be 100000x better and simpler

Ellipsoidal yes,  spherical, don't know but might be depending on the diameter.
