Trouble with headset mic

I have a rog gu501. I am not sure if the microphone cuts in/out or the volume goes from nothing up to normal talking voice. It does not seem dependent on anything and just drops randomly. I have tried it with multiple headsets and no change  It is a 2-1 headphone jack. I mostly use discord and overwatch which is where i noticed the problem. Drivers are updated. laptop microphone works fine without any headset plugged in.  Reinstalling drivers did not change anything. Increasing boost of microphone did not change anything. Disabled game dvr and bar . Have tried all troubleshooters which have not worked. Adjusting recording under sound did not change anything. Turning off communications activity did nothing. microphone under privacy is turned on for apps. Win 32web view host is on.  I might have tried more things but this is all that I can remember at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
