Hi,

I have an i7-8700 and its cycling between 3.4ghz and 3.8ghz and in a CPU based game (Rust) I only get 60fps on all low where everyone even with lower cpu's get way more same settings.

Im unsure whats wrong and need help.

It doesn't stop changing Mhz and isnt at its stock (3.2 ghz)

Sounds like normal behavior.

I suspect its because you are running a bloody 1050ti

You are getting the framerate we are expecting from that GPU afaik.

And youve done the usual driver updates and DDU after getting it?

Could also just be Vsync. Either enabled in game or in the control panel

@Adam132 and @GoldenLag When I go to set my ram to 3200 (Where it should be) as an XMP profile it sets my CPU to over its boost speed in which it shouldn't correct? So im currently at 2133ghz

Check two things.

First, your CPU clock speed and what it's doing. Click on your start menu, then go into your Windows settings. Click on System. On the left side, click on Power & sleep. On the right side, click on Additional power settings. From there, make sure you are on the Balanced power plan. Then click on Change plan settings. Then click on Change advanced power settings. Scroll down to Processor power management and click on the + symbol. Then click on the + symbol for both the Minimum and Maximum processor state. The Minimum should be set to 5% and the Maximum should be set to 100%. As shown below...

minproc.png.d089798ac4e0b27edcd7bccdde05023f.png

Let me know if this is already how your power plan is set or if it shows something else(which is what I'm guessing). Setting it as shown is the way to go and will allow your CPU to clock much higher than 3.4 to 3.8 GHz. This will also keep your CPU from running at it's max clock while you aren't gaming and allow your CPU to clock to its max while you are gaming. Your i7-8700 should be able to clock up to 4300 MHz(4.3 GHz) in Rust and up to 4600(4.6 GHz) in games that use just 1 core and 4500(4.5 GHz) in games that use just 2 cores. This also depends on if you have turbo enabled in your BIOS.

The second thing you should check is what your RAM is currently clocked at. Click on the Start menu and then click on the Task Manager. Then under the Performance tab, click on Memory. The current speed of your RAM is shown on the right side. I'm guessing it shows 2133 MHz. What speed does it show?

If you want to overclock your RAM, you can do so in the XMP profile in your BIOS but if your default speed is 2133(as shown in your specs above), I wouldn't expect to overclock it to the 3200 you might be trying to achieve. 2400 to 2666 to 2800 is probably going to be what you should shoot for. I think you should test all three, starting with 2400. You also need to make sure you know what you're doing when overclocking RAM because I do believe there is more to it than just trying to clock it at certain speeds. There are several guides on YouTube that you should follow while you are attempting to overclock your RAM and you should be just fine.

Hope this helps. In Rust, your CPU should stay locked at 4300 MHz(4.3 GHz) and may show something like 4289 MHz when viewing its clock using software such as MSI Afterburner.

What happens when you run Cinebench or another stress test/benchmark? Does same thing occur there? Only reason I can think of Turbo not staying at max is that load is changing too much, or that you are having temp issues and CPU is throttling because of those. As its locked CPU, you can't do much to fix those things. But to get better temps, if those are issue, is to set manual or adaptive voltage. Thats setting which should be available for you.

What driver would that be? Mobo is irrelevant for GPU drivers, and chipset ones support all supported Windows versions (7,8,.1 and 10).
