ryzen: hold off on 3000 series now?

I have everything ready for my build except cpu and motherboard. Would it be wise to get a 2600/2700 cpu + B450 board for cheap and then go all out on boxing day or something and get a 3900x/3950x cpu + x570 board?

Hold off on buying and wait for the 3000 series to drop. Buying something now just to upgrade a few months later would be a pretty big waste of money.

If you wanna upgrade, i suggest getting the cheaper part like 2200g.

But it's less than a month, why don't you just wait and get a 3600.

The X570 won't be cheap, not as cheap as current X470 prices.

so what do you recommend? Go with a 3000 series cpu + x470?

If you don't need PCIe 4.0, then yea that's probably a good option.

 

Heck, you could buy a processor now and probably return it to most retailers by time Zen 2 benchmarks are out and chips are available for purchase.

Yes, up to 8 cores, if you need more then i suggest you get x570.

x570 is expensive because a. PCIE4 and b. beefier power deliveries for 16 core.

If you don't need it, then x470 will be great.

I mean... most quality motherboards would be fine unless you're doing something like LN2 overclocking. Like honestly, if I were getting an R9 3900X, I'd trust my ASUS X370-F Strix to handle it with a mild all-core overclock, and that's with 'only' a 6 phase vcore. I'd probably watch temperatures closely for the first early bit, but the heatsinks on the VRMs give me confidence.

 

If you were competitively overclocking, then there's nothing I can help you with there because I don't know anything about that and where to draw the line.

8 or 12....but maybe 8 considering couple from a dual-core laptop.

if I'll overclock, it'll be very mild. Planning on air cooling only.
