M.2 NVME as a phone backup drive

Quick Question,

I'm planning to buy the Intel 660p M.2 NVME drive and an enclosure to use as a backup drive for my phone. 

Can I connect it directly or do I need more power. I looked online but there isn't a clear answer.

What kind of phone do you have most newer phones have cloud back-up already that covers pretty much every aspect of the phones data.

It depends on the USB OTG implementation of the device. Some provide power, others don't.

So what's the verdict? Will it work?

 

For that matter, will any external ssd like the SanDisk Extreme and the Samsung T5 work if connected directly to a smart phone?

Considering you can charge another phone with it, I'd say it can deliver enough power to run an SSD.

Thanks for the input. It does make sense, but i'll be transferring data. Although it does power another phone, this is a risky case. It may not work or I can loose data while transferring.

Funny that there aren't blogs or youtube videos that demonstrate it.
