Can I pair

i5 9400f

msi B360 pro VH

rtx 2060

1x16 ram

Technically yes, but please go 2 x 8GB instead of 1 x 16GB. Make sure your motherboard supports 9th gen Intel.

If you can wait for Ryzen 3000, the Ryzen 5 3600/X might be a better choice. Have to wait till July 7th for release then maybe a day or two after for reviews.

yes but you don't need 32gb of ram for gaming which is what i assume you're doing. 16gb is plenty, you'd find it hard to max out 16gb of ram at all. I personally use up to 12GB on 1440p.

Also, how about give us a budget and we'll help you get a build? Might be a better choice

Do you already own the MSI B360 Pro-VH motherboard or are you looking to buy it? If you don't already have it I would recommend something else instead.

2x8GB RAM would be a better choice than a single 16GB stick.

It's valid. I believe you just need to be an email subscriber to Newegg to use it, so just subscribe to their email list and then unsubscribe after you buy if you want. Here's the offer, and I did verify the code works for me:

I did, and I unfortunately was not impressed. The 3600x lost to the 9600K in four of the seven games they showed, functionally tied in one (but still with Intel showing the lead), and won in two. And that's with their own slides, too, which should be the best of what they can show. So if that's the best, I'm worried.

Yep, but very cheap, too, considering the usual price. $659 is a steal.

Yes but isn't the 9400F slower and not-overclockable making for a CPU that ages worse than if you had spec'd out a 9600k build?  Also why do the overclocking motherboard with a non-K cpu?  If it's only for compatibility with the newer CPU than perhaps there's updated stock of like, B360s or something.  I can sorta get why the benchmarks for the new Zen2 CPUs didn't blow you away on gaming, it looks sorta like AMD managed to sorta-tie Intel on a lot of games with Ryzen 3000 vs Intel 9000, but at least Ryzen-low end can overclock and gets better long-term motherboard support.  For all we know that Z390 board in your post is going to be a dead-end paperweight when i7-10000 comes out and needs a new socket because Intel.
