Help with upgrading processor for lenovo z61t

I can't say for sure without knowing what the CPU is that you currently have in that machine, but it seems to use the Socket M standard.

That'd mean you could use CPUs of the following architecture:

  • Core Solo
  • Core Duo
  • Core 2 Solo
  • Core 2 Duo

The name of the mechanical socket is mPGA478MT.

Hopefully, that's helpful, but again, I can't say for sure this info is correct, without knowing the specific CPU that is currently installed.

The best you're getting is the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7600. It is a 64 bit dual core without hyperthreading.

Still very anemic by 2018 standards, as being a Core 2 series chip it can trace rather direct lineage back to the Pentium III.

But, they only run $22 from Shenzhen, so worth it to keep an old laptop going for a little longer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-Duo-T7600-2-33GHz-4MB-667-MHz-Socket-M-PGA478-CPU-Processor-Tested/254179215867?epid=74069245&hash=item3b2e4309fb:g:SckAAOSwevtcm2~f

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

It looks like all these CPUs should fit:

It's important that the CPU fits into a PBGA478 / PBGA479 socket!
But I can't guarantee that the CPU works, as your motherboard might need a BIOS update or outright doesn't support it at all!

Yep! Make sure to update to the latest BIOS on your old CPU to be safe. If you happened to get an earlier production run, the BIOS on it may not support the CPU.

Best CPU that is supported by Lenovo is the one I cited, the T7600.

Does Lenovo have a list of CPUs that are supported for that laptop or is that just what they shipped it with?
