Hi all

I am trying to build a custom case here, my concern is that if I use metal material ( like many of the aftermarket cases), will it messing with motherboard due to its electric conductivity? Do I have to treat it with something like insulation paint ? the unit will be grounded properly via PSU and I do have the brass motherboard standoff, but not sure if that helps though.

Thinking of use stuff like those:

I did build a few pc but never go to this kind of unconventional and electrical area.

Appreciate for any ideas/lessons

The issue comes when the PCB traces/solder points get in contact with conductive material while you have juice flowing through it.  If you have standoffs, and are just creating a case like a case should be made - you are fine.

As long as none of the solder points on the motherboard or any other board are touching the chassis, it's fine. Though there are certain exposed bits of metal that are fine if they come in contact with the chassis, like the metal surrounding mounting holes or the shielding around ports.

Ok one of the dumbest things I've done...so I bought a new case for my first ever build. And I open it up on the floor in my bedroom with carpet. And then my cat climbs around in there. So I've dusted out all the cat hair and dirt...Is there anything else I need to do before I start building to make sure nothing shorts out?

Nah you are fine. It’s not that stupid actually :P. Just to be safe you can mount your PSU into the case first and plug it into a wall outlet. It will be grounded then.
