I had this old laptop and i decided to update few this, and for the first 5 reboots it was fine, but it suddenly started with a black/dim screen even while booting, i tried everything but it doesnt even boot up.. i can only see the white mouse cursor.. soneone has any idea of what it could be?

If you used news drivers, they may not be right for the hardware you have.

i updated just the videocard and few other things like java and so on, the driver was correct (its an old laptop with an gtx 8200m G)

Its an old asus laptop with windows 7, yeah i can access to the bios, but even there the display is so dim that i can barely see anything.. also i dont even get to the windows loading screen... my guess was the hard drive died, but im not sure.. could it be?

Its an old asus laptop with windows 7, yeah i can access to the bios, but even there the display is so dim that i can barely see anything.. also i dont even get to the windows loading screen... my guess was the hard drive died, but im not sure.. could it be?

Sounds like a bad backlight driver, or your backlight may be dead. Can you try a seperate monitor?
