partitioning m.2 drive = slightly less performance ?

w33dhit

Hello !

So , im getting a samsung 970 pro, and 970 plus 1 tb. My question is, if my " gaming " m.2 ssd is going to be the 970 plus 1 tb, and i partition that drive to two drives say drive "D:/" and drive "E:/", will this have ANY impact on performance ingames or any other things whatsoever ? cause uknow, its kinda virtually splitt in half. ? might be a dumb question, but i have to know !!!!!

Thanks !

Won't have any issues, unlike filling up a QLC drive.

Interesting choice for the gaming drive.

Partitioning a SSD is pointless for the performance than just a mere drive separation.

In regular HDD partitioning is recommended, because the you want to have the head moving in shorter distance to read a data.

This is called short stroking.

Now, in SSD, there's no such head to move around, the data can be picked any cell at any time, edge to edge.

Hello ! Thanks for answer, then its safe i guess 0 performance lost.

Yes, primarily i was going to use the 970 pro as gaming drive, but as suggested by others on this forum, 970 plus was recommended cause it got faster random reads.

alright, so i take it before i install windows i can split the 970 plus into two partitions and it wont have any impact on anything whatsoever, fantastic !!! i will watch that linus video right now !! :)

I meant that gaming performance over a SATA SSD is negligible, you just have a pricey gaming drive :)

Enjoy!
