Is there a way to optimize flash player with a different browser other than Chrome and Firefox that is a bit lighter?

I recent put together a mining/downstairs living room PC for my dad to use, and for it to work The P4 Prescott in there has to be underclocked to 3Ghz otherwise it begins to overheat. It has hyperthreading but that's just not enough.

At 720p it's benching around 90% CPU usage with only a browser, youtube, and my miners working. At 1080p it's a slideshow and the CPU is at 100% utilization. Is youtube supposed to run this poorly on old hardware? Because I swear my old 1.8Ghz Atom laptop could muster 1080p on a good day. I'm pretty sure it can run 480p just fine but at high CPU usage which might create thermal problems in the long run.

This will be a temporary fix, since I'm currently looking around for an H60 to replace the heatsink.

Just to add flair to the scenario, everything must be done without rebooting the PC.

Waterfox, and what kind of graphics are you using with that P4?

Midori or SeaMonkey. Seamonkey is better. I got it to run on a 400Mhz PII with 64MB of RAM pretty well.

canary isn't optimized, it's just REALLY fast

Try Canary maybe?

Midori?

The browser itself isn't the biggest issue, I just think it's adobe's shitcoding, but how much of a difference do you think it would be?

Have you used youtube with either of them on the system?

A pair of 7850's. I already have Palemoon installed, but it's easier to just call it Firefox. It's more or less the same as Waterfox.

Yes, actually. 144p did pretty well, 240p was okay. Keep in mind this was on a 400MHz Pentium 2, 64MB of RAM, and Windows 98.

Are you telling me that you have crossfire 7850s running with a Pentium 4 3GHz HT and YT is lagging? My laptop can watch the wan show 900p no lag, something is wrong with that system.

Yes, 100% serious.

They're mining, but the main card is only running at 90% usage, and that was plenty of horsepower when it was in my main rig to get stuff done.

Even with the miners off, YT still lags and whores up all CPU time.

i'll probably check if there's an update or something for flash, since I don't think I've ever manually updated it but I'm not that optimistic for that to solve the issue.

I would check to see what is making up the cpu usage in the task manager.

It's always flash or the browser in use. I believe in Firefox it's Flash and under Chrome just chrome.

It makes no sense. Have you verified that the cpu is running at full clock speed in cpuz? It could be throttling because of overheating.
