4k UHD VLC

Go to solution Solved by PlayStation 2,

I'm assuming these are UHD Blu-ray rips. If so, then the movie probably is in HDR, so you'd most likely have to mess around with image settings as it likely isn't tonemapping down to SDR correctly.

Is there a way to watch 4k UHD mkv video on VLC without having the colors washed out? I used the Plex media app to play the file locally, and the colors were fine. On VLC, I can't get the colors to look like that. On other forums, some say it might be a transcoding issue or there are settings to tinker on VLC

Yeah, I couldn't find a method to make VLC play HDR.  It's been about a year since I last checked, but I haven't heard about any progress.  The only player that I found that actually played HDR correctly was the Windows Movies & TV app, however, that doesn't use all the audio codecs a lot of files are encoded in.
