Is this Build okay?

JustEbu

Hello lovely LTT Community ❤️

A friend of mine want's to build his PC.

He also isn't sure if he should get the 8700k or 9900k. And do you guys think the 9900k would get hot or above 80c when OC with this AiO? Or would you suggest another AiO.

If you have any advices please let me/him know :)

How much of an OC? As 1.25V won't make much difference but 1.4V would make a large difference

He says that he definitely want's the 4,8GHz.

Also it will most likely hit 80 easily even with that cooler during stress testing without OCing

i mean, would the 8700k make any difference when he doesn't want the temps that high but still OC it?

Also what i read somewhere that if you change "LongDurationPowerLimit" to 130w and vCore voltage Offset to -0,030 the temps should go lower. Is that true?

The i7 should theoretically run cooler running at higher frequencies as it has less cores and threads

I wouldn't know for certain as I'm only just getting into OCing

What is it your friend is planning on doing on the computer?

Mainly gaming and Streaming. I mean, games are still taking advantage of 1 core right? then he can (if he want's) use the 9900k stock because it's also hitting 5ghz on 1 core.

might be worth saving the money and going to an i7, and putting the money into a better GPU, most games dont fully utilize more than 4 cores (and their associated threads) and you would see a betterr performance gain going to a 2080 or even a "better" 2070 (i say better as the only Gigabyte Gpu i have owned shit itself within two months) verses going to an i9. or even spending the money on a HDD to have as a secondry drive for the M.2 so you can store your games on there. (as games can get quite large)

For example, my current computer's secondary drive

and that is games, pictures, and video files as i create videos as a hobby

this is just my steam games that are installed

The i9-9900K is a much more powerful cpu than the i7-8700K. The choice comes down to how much one wants to spend.

The selected aio will do a good job with the i9-9900K.

I would suggest a much better psu. Corsair RM750X or RM650X would be a good choice.

If he ant to game and stream at the same time get the i9. If it's going to be mainly gaming get the i7 and use the money to upgrade to a 2080. I have that config and it's a beast.

Would your friend mind waiting about a month? New Ryzen cpus are releasing 7/7 and it was shown at computex that Ryzen 3900x beat the i9-9900k in performance and for cheaper.

Given the lower clocks, Zen 2 cpu are going to need a very significant increase in IPC to beat Intel in gaming.

There has been a lot of speculation but I don't believe AMD has provided any numbers. In fact it said that press reports of improvements up to 30% misinterpreted data related to a particular workload test on server cpu and did not represent expected improvements for Zen 2 consumer cpu.

Sure, but still worth the wait to see what it brings when it releases if op doesn't need it immediately.

Agreed. I just want the OP to realize that contrary to some posts the superiority of Zen 2 over current Intel cpu is not a certainty.
