Computer starts up for a split second with new CPU and then turns off

After installing my new i7 9700k I ran into a problem where my computer doesn’t turn on. Or it does, but only for a split second. Things that happen.

-LED lights turn on from the motherboard and then turn off because the computer turns off

-ALL fans spin for a split second then PC shuts off

Thats basically it from what I know I’ve seen.

Ive went ahead and put my old CPU back in and the computer turns on again. So I don’t think it’s a problem with any other components.

Who told you the 9600k is compatible with a Z170 board out from the factory or with BIOS updates anyway? It's not

The i7 9700k (or any 8000 or 9000 series Intel Processors) is not compatible with the Z170 motherboards. It's the same physical socket which is why the CPU fits in the socket, however the Z170 chipset is not compatible.

If you wish to use that CPU you will require a new motherboard. Other option is to return the CPU to the store you bought it from.

Maybe wait 5 weeks for the new Ryzen 3000 CPUs to launch (also requires new motherboard).

What are you planning on using the system for?

Gaming and video editing with high rendering. Can you link me to a new motherboard? That would be compatible with this one?

Check out pcpartpicker.com, it is an excellent tool to shop for PC components.

However, your use case involves stuff the new Ryzen processors will be great at. Since you're replacing the motherboard anyways, send back the i7 and wait until July to get new Ryzen processors. They'll be much cheaper and have more video editing power.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I wish they came out sooner. But I think I will just get a new motherboard for the i7 9700k. I need this new CPU for some projects that I want to do that just can’t wait that long. I want to use the new CPU all through our summer and I don’t want to really wait as impatient as it sounds. Thanks for telling me that I will definitely tell my friends about the new ryzens. So do you know what motherboard I can get for a cheaper price for the i7 9700k?

Edit: just remembered pcpartpicker. Lol thanks for the website I will use that for the new motherboard
