MSI Gaming Plus vs Tomahawk

Hi,

 

I need to choose between these two motherboards:

The first one is a little bit cheaper at $125 shipping included while the other one is about $11 more expensive. However the Tomahawk is very popular but I don't know if it's worth the extra price, especially considering that I originally didn't want to spend over $100. I'm not planning on doing any CPU overclocking. I'm currently using a 2600X though I might upgrade it to a 3rd gen Ryzen CPU next year or in a couple years. I'm also using a Vega 56. Which one do you think I should get?

The tomahawk looks better and has some better features. I would read some reviews online and see what they say

The tomahawk is a lot better, so I would go with that. If you want to same some money you could get the MSI B450M Mortar, which is the MATX version of the Tomahawk. It has all the same features, minus a couple of pcie slots that you won't use anyway, and is slightly cheaper.

I've had nothing but problems with MSI boards, spanning both Intel and AMD sockets.

Strange, I've used them for two PCs, and had no issues, and they generally have really good reviews. Maybe their older models had issues?

 

Either way I don't think OP should worry too much about it.

Nothing in particular, just saying that the mortar is almost exactly the same as the tomahawk, but smaller and cheaper. Has a slightly less beefy VRM but it's still a good one and will be sufficient for anything but perhaps overclocking the top chips, such as the R7 2700X.

I went through 6 of them over the past couple of years. They were horrible. The one I have now is also failing, and it's on a different platform entirely. MSI's products are simply lacking. My dad has also had similar issues with their motherboards. As a result, I'll never use or recommend them again.
