I'm going to build a new rig for me and i decided to start from scratch. These are the specs:

i5-4670k

Corsair vengence 1600 MHz 16Gb (2 x 8Gb)

ASUS Gryphon Z87

Corsair 700GS

Corsair SP120 for the water cooler and case

a 120Gb SSD (not sure what brand yet, if anyone can give me some advice for this too, please)

1Tb Blue Caviar WD

Corsair H100i

ASUS Geforce 780GTX DirectCU II 3Gb

And is here where i'm stuck: what case i get?

In the build video for the "Better" gaming rig, Linus use the Cooler Master Storm Scout 2, however the weird mounting for the H100i is driving me away from that case, not because of the way of the mount, but the fear of dropping something in the rad and breaking it. I was thinking about the Corsair 500d, 600t, Cooler Master 690 ii advanced or (i think it's a beautiful case) the Cosmos 1000, NOT the Cosmos 2. If anyone could give me a direction or even some tips for the build, i'd appreciate.

Most, if not all, corsair cases can fit the H100i. That cooler is a bit OP for a 4670K however. Unless you're going for extreme overclocks you could also go with an air cooler. Which would probably lead to clearance issues with your RAM, bla bla.

To stay on topic, The Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 makes a great case with enough room for a 240mm radiator+ fans. But the corsair lineup should have you covered for sure. I'd recommend the Corsair Cardbide 300R.

who cares...

My case (arc midi r2) has off-set 120mm mounts in the top for a h100i to fit nicely. It's an ATX case (though im using m-atx lol)

M-atx suggestions to match you gryphon would be: arc mini r2, and 350D

Thanks for all of the replys. I think i'm going to go with a Corsair 300R because where i currently live, it's kind of cheap, and i've never saw a fractal design at prices below 350 dollars here. As for the OP water cooler, i think it will perform at normal performance because it's... a bit, warmer then the US, at... let's say 30°C (86°F) NORMAL! If I lived in a colder country, or where pc cases wheren't overpriced, i'd go for a fractal and a air cooler for the cpu. Thanks for the tips and i'll post some photos of my finished rig!

Edit: After some search, i discovered a cheap Corsair C70 here, so it's my new best choice. Also, the Thermaltake Urban S41 and S71 good cases? I looked at that front panel and almost cryed.

All nice cases. The front of the S71 is sweet. Corsair 300R is not a great choice as the H100i overhangs the motherboard. The C70 has lots of room for the H100i. Also, with its removable drives and fan mounts on the the drive bays it offers some great cooling options.

Sorry, i'm new to the forum and didn't saw that. But, here it is:

1. Budget & Location:

Brazil, about 2000 U$ (keep in mind that most of the prices here add about 50% of the price on the US).

2. Aim:

Games like Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, Bioshock, ArmA 3 as well running simulation programs, so kind of a worksation but with less power needed (i need multiples cores so i can run the simulation much faster).

3. Monitors

Only one for now, but i doubt i'll expand to more than two.

4. Peripherals

Already got them.

5. Why are you upgrading?

Because i'll need a better pc for simulation and my current pc is a mere 2.33 GHz Dual Core.

But i've already got my question answered (what case do i get), so all of this information is kind of useless, unless someone have better parts for my rig.

Where are you shopping? Is a copy of Windows needed?

You can definitely get similar performance for cheaper or better performance for a similar price.

No need for windows. I'm going to buy where is cheap, and that include overseas. The graphics card, the SSD and the HD I'll buy by amazon uk since it's WAY cheaper than here. A 780GTX costs about 650 U$ in the uk and here is more like 850 U$. That will save some money. Also i abandoned the idea of using mATX since it has less slots and i MAY, i repeat, i MAY expand my system in the future. I was thinking of the Z87 series of ASUS (Z87-A, -PLUS, -PRO, -DELUXE, -C, etc..) or the Sabertooth Z87.If you can suggest a better config for less money or the same amount, please do! I'll be more then happy!

Are there any specific shops you have in mind? Links please?

What were you planning to expand to? Matx should be plenty unless you're planning something along the lines of triple or quad sli/cf.

Well, I think a link won't help much in this case because most of them are in portuguese. But i can give the links from the amazon uk where i'll buy the memory, the ssd and the graphics card. Here it is:

SSDhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-120GB-Basic-Solid-State/dp/B00E391KA8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391188270&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+evo+120gb

Memoryhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B0085IWXB8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1391188295&sr=8-4&keywords=cor

Graphics Cardhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/GeForce-DirectCU-Graphics-Express-Display/dp/B00DQ5E8DQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391188286&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+780

I'll be upgrading, so a mATX won't do anymore for me. Anyway,i figured out that my case will be the Corsair C70 or the Thermaltake Urban S71, whichever will be available.

There is Google Translate and several other online translators. But you would be surprised how easy it is to figure out stuff even without translation. Brand & model names tend to be the same and much of what we use to identify stuff is numbers, e.g. 2x4GB DDR3-1600 CAS 9, 1.5v.

There's no point getting such an expensive cpu cooler if what you're doing is gaming. Save some money and get a cheaper cooler like a 212 Evo. Skip the Corsair fans as well.

If you're dead set on the case, go ahead and get an atx mobo. If not, I'd suggest matx to save some space and money. http://www.starhouse.com.br/loja/produto-289123-31134-gabinete_cooler_master_n200_nse_200_kkn1

Ok, first i'm sorry for the late response because i was on a trip, so... A week afk.

There's no point getting such an expensive cpu cooler if what you're doing is gaming.

Well, you obviously never lived where i live. The maximum temperature here is of 40° C, which is VERY HOT. Also i'll be overclocking the processor. Keep in mind that i'll will run heavy cpu loads for extended periods. Also i've already ordered the H100i and received.    No regrets (it's beautiful  :D )

I've also got a deal for the case and the mobo that will save loads of money. I found a Z87-PLUS full ATX for the price of a Z87M-PLUS. I've also ordered the case and it's a Corsair Obsidian 550D, super deal here. Well, since my parameters changed, i might make a update of what i need: I'll be gaming AND running heavy loads on the cpu. I might change the i5 - 4670k for a  i7 - 4770k. Please don't ask me why the upgrade on the processor and what kind of cpu loads am i talking about, it's just... "personal" (What kind of stupid anwser is that?) I really can't tell what kind of load i'll have because i DON'T KNOW, OK!? I DON'T KNOW.

But i'm sure it's a big one. Like... A very big one. A BIG one. Also i can't help myself, a cool cooler (ha) needs a big cpu to cool down, and there is nothing cooler (hhaaa) than a i7.

*disclamer: no puns intended, they just happened.

I'm confused. You say i7 but you list an i5. Also, an i7 will run a bit hotter than the i5 due to HT.

You also say you'd be running heavy cpu loads yet at the same time, you say you don't know.

If you have made changes, be clear about what they are and update the list with relevant info.

I'm sorry, i got confused, a lot going through my mind, so let me clear out:

I'm finishing my graduation, and i work with 3d simulation, NOT modeling, simulation. I don't work with a generic program, i make my own programs, each one for a specific need. I usually use the university cluster they provide to us, however, i need a powerful pc at home so i can make changes without the need to drive all the way to the university, test, debug, try again, etc as i usually did. As for the load of the cpu, it varies from program to program and their respective versions, but they tend to take all they can from the processor. My rig will NOT be a workstation or a gaming rig, but a mid term between them.

A updated version of the components:

- i7-4770k

- 16Gb Corsair Vengence (2 x 8Gb)

- ASUS Z87-PLUS

- Corsair GS700 (got it for the same price of the CX600)

- WD 1Tb 7200 RPM (already have it)

- Samsung EVO 120Gb SSD

- Corsair Obsidian 550D (already have it)

- Corsair H100i (already have it)

- ASUS Geforce 780GTX DirectCU II

Well, because it costs almost my budget. And for extreme performance, i'll not use MY rig, but a cluster, way more efficient. But that raises a question: here the i7 4770k is almost the same price of a i7 4820k. So, Haswell or Ivy Bridge-E? I could use a bit more power. Also, will it perform better in games?

The 4770k should be a bit better than the 4820k.
