Finding benchmarks of older CPU's with newer cards is difficult, but thankfully this review contained a lot of the necessary info:

https://www.techspot.com/article/1039-ten-years-intel-cpu-compared/page5.html

It shows the i7 870 with a GTX 980 compared to more Intel CPU's and shows it doesn't max out a GTX 980. But the 980 also has more performance than a 960 or 1050.

It is somewhat difficult to find benchmarks of the GTX 1050/960 in the same games with the same settings though.. So using some casual obsevations of GTX 960/1050 reviews in these games, it doesn't look like the i7 870 will keep them down.

Thanks for the info but I am more interested in new games like metro exodus on normal settings atleast

I can't judge the CPU's performance in those games directly, but I was able to see in the review listed the i7 870 did hold back a GTX 980 a bit in certain games they tested, but the difference between the GTX 980 - which they used in testing - and the GTX 960/1050 - which you mentioned in the OP - will mitigate the lesser performance you get with a i7 870.
