The key to having a responsive system is an SSD drive for Windows and your software.

You can have the most powerful CPU and excessive amounts of RAM but if you can't supply the hardware with data quickly enough, your system will be slow.

Obviously, a good CPU with plenty of cores will make multitasking more smooth and RAM will allow you to have more Chrome tabs apps open and also make data heavy workloads run better.

If you are working on a build, what will you use it for?

I want to build a PC that I can do my homework on and have 5+ tabs open, can watch YouTube/Twitch/ listen to music and have it run smooth . I will also be gaming on it (Fortnite, Rainbow 6, BF1) , doing some adobe programs, and streaming.

And what is your budget?

1500-2000

Just about bang on 2000. Bit overkill but will run pretty much any game at 1440p60 and at least 4k30. But you gotta keep in mind its a full setup. If you already have monitor/keyboard and mouse than you could get better parts or just save some money.

if you want to get the most out of your money and be sure about your purschase i would see how Zen 2 pans out.

the iGPU isnt very useful in those programs afaik and as such getting some higher frequency and more cores on the issue is the way to go.

I was thinking either and i9 or i7 9700k and was going to either go with an rtx 2070 or 2080

hold of for now. Zen 2 is probably close enough that waiting a little wont hurt

Yeah you’re right , I’ve waited 3 months doesn’t hurt to wait a bit longer lol , I’ll wait and see and if I’m still concerned about things I’m going to make a post on here asking for good specs for a 1500-2000 pc and do everything I want it to do . I’m not the greatest with PCs as I just started to learn about them on January , but I know it’s a good investment .

even with the worst case scenario of Zen 2 not fitting for you (and it most likely will be a better pick) its likely we will see some price drop of 9k and 8k series CPUs.

just fyi if you didnt know. the 8k and 9k series from intel is identical. and 7k is the same as 8k. the only difference being that they slapped another 2 cores at the end of it and made it warmer.

as such the 8700k is honestly a better pick than the 9700k.

I will definitely keep that in mind man , thank you so much for the replies . Hopefully the zen 2 is good but you’re right about potential price drops so I guess it might be a win for me to wait regardless

This would be more what I would aim for. If you plan to do lots of streaming and don't want to use the geforce codec then you might upgrade to a 2700 for another 50 bucks or so.

I used the 2600 over the 2600x and upgraded the CPU cooler expecting you would be able to do a simple 4.2ghz overclock on the cpu.

If you need monitor and mouse/keyboard then expect to add another 150-250 to the total cost.

You could upgrade to the RTX2070, but I personally thinks its awful value for the performance (it really should be called a 2060 Ti)

Adobe likes Intel better so 8700K it is

But yeah as others said, at least wait for Zen2 just to see if shakes up the market so you can net even better deals.
