So this is my PC build, I already have basically everything this is just what I'm using to show what I have. I'm just curious as to if I should upgrade my RAM as compared to the rest of my PC it's a bit weak. So I was thinking maybe I should just get rid, and maybe get some faster RAM, and maybe 2x16 instead? Or is there not much point?

Thanks!

Use case? Are you only going to be gaming on this? You can get a 2070 for cheaper than the 1080, since 10 series cards are not being produced, they are very expensive.

For gaming, 2x8gb is sufficient and an NVME SSD is not needed

For intel, RAM speed doesnt make nearly as much sense or difference compared to Ryzen. Unless you can find a really good deal on 3000 or 3200 speed kit, I wouldnt change it if you already have it. 16gb is all you need for gaming and everyday use.

I was just using PC part picker as a way of showing what I have, I already have all of the parts, I was just curious about the RAM is all, thanks for your help though :)

np, and if you want to try and have fun, you can likely overclock the RAM to higher speeds as well manually.

Not a fan of that board with a 9900K. I wouldn't do any overclocking on the cpu.

Yeah I don't plan to OC the CPU tbh. Mainly because like, it will just be overkill really, not really any need for it to be faster for gaming.

Well if the usage of ram is more than 16gb I would upgrade it, Anymore than needed is kinda useless.

I noticed you put a WD Black 1TB hard drive in your list. The 1TB WD Black hard drives aren't worth the money and if you're buying 1TB, I recommend you use the WD Blue instead as it offers similar performance for a cheaper price. The WD Black offers better reliability due to features such as anti-vibration pads, etc., however, only from the 2TB model. Also, WD Black hard drives are much louder than WD Blue hard drives.

Edit: I also noticed you have a 970 Evo in your list. The 970 Evo Plus costs roughly the same as the 970 Evo and offers more performance. Also, why a 1TB NVMe SSD and 2 small, 240GB SATA SSDs, from different vendors? Make sure you really are going to use the speed of an NVMe SSD before spending that much on one and if you really need that much SSD storage, just go with one 500GB SSD instead of two 240GB SSDs.

NVME speeds will only really show their speed when moving big files and during bootup. Booting to windows is like 5 seconds faster on NVME too. Gaming won't see any difference between NVME and SATA SSDs, so it might be wiser to go for 1-2 1TB SATA SSDs(860 Evo maybe?)

I appreciate what your saying, but this is my current PC, I was just suing PCPP as like a way to list what I have, I've had some of these parts for years, so like the WD Black is like 4 years old, and the SSD's are 2 and 1 year old, that's why it looks so odd, sorry for the confusion.

Never mind. If only I had read the whole post, I would read the part where you say that is your current setup. Sorry for the confusion.

There is a performance difference but it is quite small, see https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i7_8700K_Coffee_Lake_Memory_Performance_Benchmark_Analysis/ for data.

Going to 32GB would offer some improvement. In the general case, more memory offers a better performance improvement than higher speed memory. Unless one is into content creation or other memory intensive work, the real world benefit of 32GB over 16GB would be marginal.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
