I'm currently buying parts to build a gaming PC.

The specs are as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600x

Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb at 3200mhz

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 (Zotac)

Storage: Samsung 860 QVO 1tb SSD and Seagate Barracuda 3tb 7200 rpm HDD

Case: Cooler Master MB500

There are a few other things but they're not nearly as important. I currently have a PC with a GTX 680 from Zotac. I'm thinking that if I buy the graphics card last, since I'm saving money and buying as I go, maybe I can use the GTX 680 from my older PC for a while until I buy the RTX 2060. I'm wondering what impact on performance in modern games this may have. I mean, I know I'll get less fps, but is this a good idea?

swap for a mx500 500GB from crucial and a seagate constallation ES 3TB. it will save you quite a bit of money.

what PSU are you using.

drop to 3000mhz ram. it will save some money without costing in performance.

You wont have any issues using a 680, sure its old and not very good by todays standards, but should still be good enough to get you by. Performance on a 680 is on par with a 1050ti in terms of FPS in games.

Okay first of all the ram is already bought and it was on sale for $75 on Amazon. Had to buy it. (Amazon Prime Business gives AMAZING deals on tech). Second, I want 1 terabyte for my boot drive because sometimes there are weird circumstances where you can't install things onto a second drive or it's difficult. I'd like the extra storage for those weird circumstances. Third, thanks for the tip on the 3tb thing. Fourth, I haven't looked at AMD cards at all really, so I'll look into it. Thanks.

Oh also, are you thinking of the EVO drive price? Because Samsung's new QVO 1tb drive is just over 100 USD so it's nice for budgeted gamers.

i would suggest getting a propper cached 1TB drive since that one is both QLC and non-cached.

propper cached drive. the QVO is non-cached and isnt fantastic for boot drives.

cheap NVMe drive, non-cached but has the advantage of running NVMe

€dit: The Bitfenix Formula is more than fine.

And the VEGA56 is also an Option you should look at.

What are the components you have right now?

The GTX 680 is not great.

But depending on the CPU it depends...

I wouldn't even consider a QLC drive find the right deal and the MLC drives are nearly the same price.    The write performance and longevity is insanely bad at this point.

BTW 2 of my 1TB drives are $104 right now (although OOS where I live) are NVME, have a good controller (Phison E12) and NAND (Toshiba BiCS 3D MLC).  Rated for 3GB/1.9GB and 570k/570k access.

The Seagate constellation is one of the cheapest options available in the market, I am not saying it is a defective or bad unit, I am just saying that the option is available to the market and you could save around 10 to 20 dollars yet when buying one of those depending on the capacity you choose and comparing it with the Seagate BarraCuda...
