Best Step-Down resolutions.

The Torrent

So i have a 1440p screen, and am wondering what the best step-down resolution is for games as i only have a gtx 1060 6gb.

so for demanding games, i much rather turn the resolution down than anything. so what fits? i just dont know how it works, so if i chose 1080p will it fit ok? or will it actually look worse than it would on a normal 1080p screen?

should i chose resolutions that are factors, such as will the only other appropriate resolution be 720p? (as its half of 1440p so it will fit? or does it not work like that?)

etc. etc.

I'm assuming by 1440p you mean 2560 x 1440 (16:9) and not 2304 x 1440 (16:10).

Your graphics card will scale whatever you choose to fit your monitor. It can also letterbox/pillarbox/windowbox, depending on your Nvidia settings.

Just try things out until you find one that works. 720p is pretty popular for performance, but I bet a 1060 can handle 1080p.

Go with 1080, it will look the same as normal 1080p

Just experiment and judge for yourself. But 1080p on a 1440p screen generally looks pretty blurry.

contrasting ideas here.

I did experiment by myself but i haven't got another 1080p monitor to compare so i cant tell if the gain from 720p to 1080p is worth the extra required processing power.

My graphics card might but my display wont. With 720p my screen will have 2 pixels for each graphics pixel, but im guessing with 1080p it will start getting blurry because they will share pixels or something am i right or will it not work like that??

What's the size of your display? For my eyes, 1080p looks fine with a 24" monitor.

You're wrong, the native resolution will always look the better and sharper, 1080p on a 1080p panel will look significantly better than on a 1440p screen due to interpolation.

OP, you don't have much to do here, gonna have to settle for an inferior 1080p experience or go with 1440p and make up decreasing other graphical settings, check which way works best for you.

ahh ok.

Games like Rainbow 6 have a 'Temporal Upscaling' thing so you can set lower resolutions to fit higher resolutions. Does anyone know if there is a third party software or such to do this??
