I need help

Hey guys!

 

Im a little new to the whole computer world. Im trying to help my friend bargain and tweak this computer. Please help!

 

1) I need some pricing on this computer

2) I need some opinions on what should be upgraded ASAP

3) I need a budget 60 hertz monitor thats affordable for a teenage kid. 

4) Would powerline ethernet be a good option?

Well being as the processor alone is 10 years old. And the GPU itself can be bought used for about 80 bucks on ebay. I wouldn't spend anymore then 250-ish bucks. (That's me tho)

400$. Yeah thats an old processor. I also kind of found it suspicious he uses two different brands of ram? Give me a quote so i can bargain this guy down?

i5 750 = $20 (eBay)
Motherboard = $50 (maybe, idk what board it is, just guessing)
120GB Kingston SSD = $10 (it's only $20 brand new)
Used 1TB HDD = $10
RD 380 = $80 (eBay)
Case = $30
PSU = Worthless

So yeah, $200ish.

Nothing suspicious about using different brands of RAM. They probably had 4GB when they built the system 10 years ago and then at some point added another 4GB stick to upgrade it to 8GB (or some other combination of RAM capacity like 4x 2GB sticks).

Offer him 200, anything higher then that.. It's just not worth it.

If you're able too.. You could just buy some parts and build yourself one for about 500-600. That's actually a lot better. The money you would spend "upgrading" that $200 dollar PC wouldn't even be worth it.

I have purchased MANY of these systems and even built them to similar specs

 

When i purchase a computer with that era processor, ram, ssd ect its approx $100-150

 

With a GPU as a "Gaming Computer" I would sell for about $300-350 MAX

 

The i5-750 is a very weak CPU for gaming. Fortnite would be 40Fps on Medium with low draw distance fyi

Really? Single-channel RAM and 2400Mhz for Ryzen? Also no point in that cooler at such a tight budget, the stock AMD one is adequate.

While I generally favor the RMx PSU as those are really good, a cheaper TXM works just fine.

I got an i5 2400 and a 1060 3gb for that same price believe it or not. The 1060 may be slightly bottlenecking the processor but you can always make a processor upgrade in the future. 

The best budget build is just getting a cheap optiplex and slapping a gpu into it.

Also, if you intend to get a cheap optiplex with an i5 2400 then an i5 2400 is the highest you can get since Dell made there own custom chipset which prevents you from upgrading anything other than a i5 2400. And they do that with alot of there motherboards that way your not just upgrading your system. Your buying new dell pc's so if you want to do a CPU upgrade you'll have to get a motherboard. But the CPU being bottlenecked or not, it's still pushing more frames than that system you listed. It's a great system for a CUSTOM build pc but if you just purely want best bang for your buck. Your best bet is an optiplex with a 1060 3gb ( which is what I got for the same price ). No question about it.
