ASUS ZenBook 14 or Matebook Pro X 13.9 -Graphic Design

Go to solution Solved by WhiskeyLeach,

So I have decided to take a chance on buying the Matebook x pro (16gb, I7,MX150) from a well known eBay seller for 1100 euros. I was told they are factory sealed and more or less new... cross fingers that it is.

I will give an update on this post or another post on how I get on with it.

Hi Guys, I need a bit of help choosing a laptop for travelling while doing graphic design (Adobe Cloud). I have increased my budget and have pinpointed towards these two laptops.

 ASUS ZenBook 14 -

  • More RAM 16g
  • price €1200
  • Not a great charger port
  • no thunderbolt
  • CPU i7-8565U
  • no touch screen

 Matebook Pro X 13.9 -

  • Less RAM 8g
  • Price 1399
  • Thunderbolt
  • CPU i7-8550U
  • Touch Screen
  •  Good Screen

*Both have the same GPU MX150.

I want to go for the Zenbook because of the price and extra RAM... but am afraid the quality isn't great on them compared to the Matebook. If you have any advice or any other laptop I would much appreciate it.

The dell XPS 13/15 have pretty good screens. The build quality on it isn’t in the same league as the matebook, and the 13” version has no gpu.

I’ve seen the surface book 2 on sale in the us for around that price and the 13” comes with a 1050, but a last gen cpu.

Are you from Germany?

Mind non-upgradable RAM or you prefer at least 16GB?

Are touchscreen, dGPU and TB3 musts?

Do you really need high end panel?

Any preference on weight, battery life and display size?

Desktop specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

I currently live in Ireland and I know that I will be dealing with a QWERTZ layout if I buy from Germany but the prices are the cheapest going in the EU.

RAM: The more the better! is the saying but if I can go for an 8GB and upgrade later that would work. As far as these models go there both soldered on.

Touch Screen is nothing special for me..so no need.

For graphic design, I would need a good panel with colour accuracy

As I will be travelling around, the laptop needs to be light but I have a backpack that would be able to hold a 15inch.

Any links of online stores?

Do you 100% need dGPU and Thunderbolt 3? Prefer min how many hours of battery life?

Ireland has probably the worse online stores for computing. I only use Amazon UK, DE, US (depending on import fees) or pc world uk

well GPU would be nice for the likes of After effects but i could do with integrated. Battery anywhere between 8 hours use
