I booted into Ubuntu from a flash drive after using this program. Why do I see the "Install Ubuntu" icon there? I thought it was installed on the USB drive and was persistent? Is this a persistent Ubuntu? is it already installed? Do I ignore the "Install Ubuntu" program and just use it like this? It runs like its a live cd that you install linux from. Is this it?

Live cd that you install Ubuntu from. You can make a persistent version so to speak iirc.

A live image is meant to boot from and try out OS without touching anything on your computer. If you like it, you can then properly install the OS on your computer, hence the "Install Ubunut" icon is present from a live USB. Making a live USB with persistent storage just means that changes you make are kept (you have to enable this explicitely usually), otherwise everything will be reset on each boot.

For all intents and purposes a live boot is the same as the normal OS (that's the point). It's not recommended to use a flash drive as your actual OS drive though. If you like it, just do a proper install.
