Planning an upgrade

Go to solution Solved by Taintedmind,

GTX 1050 isn't worth the price tag, since it's actually weaker than its lower-priced AMD counterparts.  I would recommend an RX 570 4gb at $130 or a RX 590 8gb around $215 right now; unless you're willing to wait until July or so when the next set of AMD cards come out.  The GTX 1660 isn't bad, either around $230, if you're looking to stick w/NVIDIA.  If not, then I would recommend DDU your drivers prior to AMD installation.

Your processor is fine as of right now, but there are i5-9400f around $155 w/out a Micro Center motherboard bundle, which'll lower the price tag by $30 when a compatible motherboard is purchased w/it.

yes (I've used the 4460 with a faster RX 470 and find it a good setup), tho 1050 prices are usually worse than the RX 560 which is just as fast

Your CPU is still good for gaming. It won't bottleneck a GTX 1050.Altough,I wouldn't recommend it,as it's overpriced. If you are ok with buying used, get a gtx 970 (I assume you have a decent PSU), maybe an rx 480,depends on which side you're on and how big the price gap is.If not, then get an rx 570 new

Thanks for the advice! I sticked with nvidea and got the GTX 1660. I guess it is a decent card for about 4 - 5 years isn't it? I don't really bother lowering from high to medium graphics.

It's a great choice, since it's not a dated card and its price isn't near the RTX series.  It has nice benchmarks, so it'll hold you until a better generation comes out down the road; happy hunting!
