Building a Ryzen PC

I will be building a gaming PC using AMD Ryzen and I noticed that there's a sale right now for the 2700, 2600, and 2600x. I'm wondering if it's worth it to spend a little bit extra on the 2700 rather than the 2600 or 2600x. What's the price to performance ratio here?

Depends on the types of games you're playing, but a quick look at some bench runs, for current games, there is a thin margin of improvement between the three chips. I'd say get the 2600, and use the savings to get a better cooler.

Well, I play games like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, and those are probably the most graphically intensive games I will play.

IMO its a bad time to buy Ryzen CPU right now because Ryzen 3000 CPUs are just around the corner.

If the games are graphically intensive and not CPU intensive, then it doesn't really matter which chip you get. Though, the 2600 has high enough clockspeed potential and enough cores that most CPU bound games will only see marginal improvements.

 

No matter what, the 2600 and 2600X are very solid choices.

Yeah but these 2000 cpus are on sale right now and the 3000 chips will be at full price upon release. It's a good deal right now and I don't even need the newest of processors. I'll probably build something new within 3 or 4 years anyway.

I had the 2600X before my 2600 and overclocked both of them. 2600X was 4.2ghz stable while my 2600 is 4.1ghz stable.. I would just get the cheapest one.. No need for the 2700(x) unless you need the cores.. No games utilize my entire 2600 as of now.. At least the games I play..
