Malwarebytes isn't actual AV. But most people here will tell you that free version of it and Windows Defender are enough. Paid version of MWB is better, but at that point you can think of paying for AV, or getting free AV too, as well.

I have paid version of BitDefender, mainly as my main browser is Firefox and free edition doesn't play nice with Firefox.

Not recommended

only if you have a fast pc,/ slows downs alot/

they often prompt pop ups and do nothing (cant update etc) /

deletes useful files/

What? Which software does that? Avira, Norton, McAfee are the ones I can agree slow things down. Avast is notorious of its popups. Rest is either your bad experience or pure speculation as I've never heard AV doing things like that. Sounds more what actual virus would be doing.

I wasn't saying it towards you, not directly. Just pointing it out and clarifying as so many here only use MWB, sometimes claiming it to be AV.

Honestly, you're actually safer with an ad blocker, as long as you aren't regularly downloading and running programs all willy nilly like. Windows Defender is actually worth something now, it's better than quite a few free AV's. Malware bytes is a good one, it is pretty good in its area. Not an av but better than most for malware.

Back when I did have an AV, it was always a compromised ad that infected me. That was my reason for getting an ad-blocker back in the day not me wanting ad free browsing. I'd get rid of my ad blocker if they kept the ads secure but I'm jaded now.

And what is your experience?

I like how it works. Full system scan is fairly quick, no popups or anything else like that. Only issues are with it being tad too aggressive with new devices, but it only happens with DVD drive connected for ripping stuff. Free version is pretty much same, though with less control options. I've used free Avast! before this, and got annoyed by its way of yearly "renew" of free version and all the needless popups.

I have adblock add-on on Chrome, but I sometimes download cracked/patched programs and I don't know if defender is reliable.

Thank you, I'll check it.
