CPU Throttle

Go to solution Solved by Princess Luna,

Download XTU and set Turbo Boost timings the longest possible:

On the Turbo Boost Power Time Window, then stress the processor and watch on the XTU utility if it indicates some sort of throttling.

Hello I have a build that is CPU Throttling or I am not understanding.

Could it be the VRMs? Or something else?

Under stress all cores run at 3.9GHz and stabilizes around 59 C. Then after about 25-30ish seconds, all cores shoot back to 3.3GHz while still at 59-60C

Thanks for any help! There is no instability, it's super responsive and it's not a big deal but I am just curious as to why it does that more than anything. Feel free to critique, I want criticism.

4.1Ghz is only a 1 core turbo, but when you stress all cores it goes down to 3.9Ghz, this is how it's designed, nothing to worry about

Right, I get that it goes down to 3.9GHz, but it drops to 3.3 with good temps. Sorry if my original post was misleading.

oh sorry, that's not supposed to happen, it's not VRM's for sure, possibly power limit? for example I know my 8700K at stock will hit power limit when running the OCCT stress test, I guess it pushes the CPU too hard, not sure if you can override that in BIOS, but you can download HWInfo (sensors-only), and look if there's any limit exceeded

Okay thank you as well. I'll check that out too

So is there any reason I wouldn't want to set Turbo Boost timing to max value?

Only if you're hitting too high voltage/temperature otherwise it's fine to... it simply will use more electricity.
