A hacker is wiping Git repositories and asking for a ransom

Couldn't Git simply just rollback all these changes? I assume Git keeps regular backups, after all.

 

And as others have stated, most users will be able to sync their local copies and change some passwords.

Good thing my primary git server is completely inaccessible from the internet unless you use a vpn.

Seems pretty pointless considering anyone writing code worth any weight would have offline backups.

What does windows 10 and ET have in common?

Agreed, but it seems to me the largest issue here is confidential code being leaked to the public (and potentially your competitors).

 

Not an issue for the open source projects, but possibly an issue for some.
